My Inspirational First Aid Kit

No matter how positive you are, sometimes life will still overwhelm you. This past week has been one of those for me, so I thought I would share one of the ways that I give myself a boost.

I consult my Inspirational First Aid Kit!! These are the people, pages and website that I turn to for inspiration when things start to overwhelm me or get difficult and mean that I always have something to remind me of the amazing world we live in.

My Top 8 Inspirational People

Why eight?? Why not?? Actually eight is my favourite number so it seemed appropriate, and although I have other authors, speakers and inspirational people that I follow, these eight are constantly popping up on my Facebook timeline with just the right thing at just the right time.

1. Danielle LaPorte – of course!!  As a Desire Map devotee and Licensee, Danielle’s work is top of my list when it comes to a quick pick-me-up. You can access her amazing #Truthbombs both electronically and to purchase via her website, pop over to her Facebook page for more wisdom or sign up for your daily Danielle dose via email. Now that I have my own truthbomb deck, one of these cards always makes it onto my Desk Altar too. She has some great Pinterest boards too…


2. Bryant McGill/Jenni Young – I have paired these two as this real-life couple run Simple Reminders together, matching inspirational quotations with their own amazing photographs. Their Facebook page is one of my favourites or you can subscribe for a daily email and get a boost straight to your inbox. They use their own words but also those of so many other inspirational people that it is impossible not to smile when an image arrives. You can also pre-order the book before it is released in May 2015. You can never have too many books!!!


3. Dr Steve Maraboli – This bloke is like a breath of fresh air and a true champion of women, amazing relationships and not settling for second best – ever. His quotations are often used by Simple Reminders (above) and you can also find gorgeous images with his words on his Pinterest boards. He is a truly gifted motivational speaker, author and behavioural scientist and watching one of his clips is a sure-fire way of lifting me out of any lull I am having.


4. Marie Forleo – my B-School hostess, Marie just has to be on my list too. Her motto is “change your life, change the world” and she is living proof that you can do just that. Not only is Marie TV my must watch for Q&A Tuesday but her website is full of great free content too. She’s a little different than the creators of masses of image content, and focuses on videos, but I love that angle too.


5. Oriah Mountain Dreamer – the author of my favourite poem, The Invitation, Oriah often posts her thoughts on Facebook. I keep my copy of The Invitation book close at hand and find that reading it along with the words she shares about it can be a great release – and something not online for a change!


6. Sophie Bashford – is based here in the UK and I am so inspired by her work as an Intuitive Healer as it is similar to what I do. You can sign up for her Feminine on Fire newsletter at her website and follow Sophie on Facebook for amazing intuitive insights. I can’t wait to have a reading with her – it is definitely on my list!

7. John C. Parkin – best known along with his wife Gaia as the authors of F**k It and F**k It Therapy, their work has helped me so much in the past. You can find lots of F**k It goodies over on their website and regular ramblings on their Facebook page – including the image I used in my last Blog post (with credit given of course).


8. Leonie Dawson – She’s last but definitely not least! I love Leonie’s colourful website and Facebook page, especially the way she shares her behind-the-scenes shots and shows the rest of us that she is just as normal (or not) as we are (or not). I bought Leonie’s 2015 Workbook and loved the clarity it gave me for my life and business for the coming year. If you want to hear some non-sugarcoated truths, then this is the Aussie for you…


I also talk to friends and get myself out of my usual routine if things are spiraling downwards, but these online resources are available 24/7 and that makes them so useful.

Weekly Words – Give Yourself Permission

When I was a kid, just like everyone else I knew, I had to ask permission to do just about anything. Whether it was from my parents, grandparent, teachers, Brownie leaders or other adults in my life, I was always looking up to adults to not only give me permission, but also to give me advice on what I ‘should’ do.

So it probably comes as no surprise that now, as an adult myself, I sometimes struggle with the idea of just doing things for myself and not having to run it past someone else first. It seems strange that I spent the first 20 years of my life (at least) listening to the opinions of everyone else and ignoring my own inner voice.

I was never taught to follow my own intuition, my own inner voice or my own soul’s longing and it has taken me many years to get to a point where I put those first and really pay attention to what is best for me, rather than putting my needs and feelings last.

Does this sound familiar?

I believe that the very first step you can take is to give yourself permission.

PermissionGive yourself permission to discover what really inspires you.

Give yourself permission to follow your dreams.

Give yourself permission to listen to own heart’s longing.

Give yourself permission to be yourself.

Give yourself permission to choose your own path.

So, this week I encourage you to take just a few minutes every day to sit in silence and listen to your soul. Ignore the voices in your head telling you what you can’t do and listen instead to your inner voice telling you what really is possible.

Ask yourself what you want, how you want to feel, what really makes you happy and what inspires you. You could do this first thing in the morning or last thing at night, and write down the messages and feelings that you get.

If you can do this regularly, you will soon see that there is no need to ask permission to be who you are. Celebrate your uniqueness, follow your own path and see how wonderfully freeing it feels.

It’s not too late to set your 2015 goals!

It’s only the last week of January and already I have heard people writing off the whole of 2015 because they either haven’t stuck to their New Year Resolutions, or haven’t created a plan.

Seriously?? We’re 29 days in to a year of 365 (that’s less than 8%) and more than likely even less of the way in to the rest of your life!

So, how can you make the most of the rest of the year?

Take some time out and make a plan. Plan from the start of February or even from the start of March and the coming of Spring. It is never too late to start!

How do I do it?

Well, as you know, I am a Desire Map devotee and got in early with a review of my core desired feelings. This process helped me confirm how I wanted to feel in my life and business this year and beyond and is a great start to the planning process. Then I needed to create some “Goals with Soul” as Danielle LaPorte would say and this lead me to the website of the wonderful Leonie Dawson.  Not only is she a soul sister from my native Australia, but she swears like a trooper and takes no prisoners – I liked her style immediately!  And it was her yearly “Create your Shining Year” workbook that looked amazing.  I wanted it immediately and was drawn to it like a moth to a flame!

WorkbookEnsconsed in my warm kitchen with green tea in a favourite mug, my angel candle holder and some ‘feel good’ crystals, I got to work.  I reviewed 2014 and gave thanks for all that I have learned and achieved, and I made a plan for 2015 for both my personal and professional lives (this blog being one of the goals for my business).  The whole process took me almost 2 weeks giving time to it when I could and letting thoughts and questions process when I had other things to do.

OK, so I did this over the Christmas break, but there is nothing stopping you making February your planning month! Getting clear on how you want to feel and then planning what you want to achieve based on that is the best way of making the most of the rest of the year.

And, if you finish by the end of February you will still have 84% of the year left to implement it all! Bonus!

I’ve Jumped and I’m Floating!!

Decisions, decisions, decisions – I’m fine with the small ones but the big ones can be scary!

I made myself slow down, I listened to my heart, I trusted my gut, read my Angel cards (and did all the calculations and business stuff too) then leapt off the edge of my comfort zone and into the unknown.

So, what’s the big decision then???

I’m now one of the very first Desire Map Licensees in the world – yup the whole wide world – EEEK!!  I think that made the decision even scarier for me as I’m putting myself up there with a handful of others to host workshops based on The Desire Map book…

You see, this all started when I discovered The Desire Map almost by chance (oh how synchronicity is something I appreciate so much now!) and wrote about How The Desire Map is changing my life back in June last year.  It really resonated with me and completely changed my focus in life – living for how I want to feel NOW, not how I want others to see me or what I want in 10 years time.  Loved every minute of the book and sorting my own core desired feelings.  I even got the kids involved and they listed some of their CDFs!

So, roll on a few months and I had told just about everyone I knew about the Desire Map and to be honest they were probably sick of hearing it!  So when Danielle LaPorte decided to launch her Book Clubs, I jumped at the chance of sharing it with even more people and became a Book Club Leader.  It was essentially a way to help people who had the book and wanted to learn more but needed someone to guide them through it and help them look at their own core desired feelings with a little gentle prodding from a mentor.  My book club ran twice and I enjoyed it but I’d decided not to run any more as it was a bit hit and miss if people came each week and I really didn’t feel that it matched my way of working either.  A few people still ask for it, but taking out more evenings from my family for no return wasn’t sitting well with me either.

Strangely it was at this point that the Desire Map Licensing Programme came along (hmmm)…. My instant reaction was… “NO” and my inner voice said “It’s too much money”, “I couldn’t do that”, “why would anyone come to me?”, “I’m not good enough to run those”…

Why do negative thoughts always push the positive ones out of the way??

In the past I might have dismissed it and that would have been it.  Negative wins again…  But not any more.  The messages about the License kept appearing on my Facebook newsfeed and in my inbox.  Clients kept telling me how much difference I had made in their lives and that I have helped them on to the right path…

Maybe I can do this??  Maybe people will come to my workshops???

Yes, I can do this!!  I let the negative thoughts go and truly looked in to the programme.  I took the time to assess my finances, check out the offer, really find out what was involved – getting hard facts before making a decision.  I have some wonderful friends who all told me to follow my heart and that I can do anything and a husband who supports me all the way.  It was an amazing couple of days pondering my decision!

So, now I’ve jumped and feel like I’m floating!!  There’s lots of wonderful work ahead as I am still not 100% clear on how I’ll implement it or sell it within my business.  I just know that it will complement my practice hugely and be something unique for this part of the world, as well as having a relaxed and rural vibe.  I can’t wait to get started!!!
